Went out to Formula Drift Round 1 at Long Beach this past weekend, and one of the crews that I met up with was Garage Boso.
Last year they ran the Nissan S15 Silvia with a Rasta Theme and an Okinawan Lion Dog on each side in Vinyl to represent Ross Petty’s past in Okinawa. By the end of the season they ended up winning best team style of the season as well as best car along with 13th place.
To change the cars designs up, they ran a reverse colored car which was still rasta themed but with more florescent colors. Aside from the obvious, the design itself was also changed a bit.
On the right side of the car, Hawaii is represented through an aggressive Tiki design. While going through the creative process of designing the car, some questions were asked and one was what could represent the Aloha state, in which the Tiki was used. Yeah, some may say that King Kamehameha should have been used, but his figure is played out and exploited by many, and many mainlanders would only recognize it to be a warrior having not relevance to Hawaii.
This Tiki was specifically based upon the Hawaiian God of war with a more aggressive twist.
On the right side of the car is an Okinawan ghost representing Petty’s time spent growing up in Okinawa. The overall cars character is pretty much summed up by Ross and the shops love for their past ideas, present interests, as well as representation of Hawaii…
Including ’808′ as his car number throughout his season.
The teams Hawaii pride doesn’t just stop there though. Before each event, they go as far as doing a certain ritual as well… Always having the Hawaii state flag in reach.
On the roof of the car they even had a Selassie; a rasta god.
Who needs a black top SR20 when you can have a rasta top one?
And not only is the engine in a presentable condition, the interior is immaculate! How often do you see Silvia’s with a full interior + roll cage? let alone race/drift cars with an interior this nice?!
Along side their drift car, Garage Boso also has a full on Bosozoku bike! This is the definition of boso right here! Where the term originally started. Initially referring to motorcycle gangs.
Its simple, just cause a ruckus! Back in the land of the rising sun, the concept goes along the lines of something like this… The bigger your back seat, the more of a badass you are… hence… well yeah, you get it.
Ah man, you gotta love an authentic stawberry faced car as well. Straight JDM YO! haha!
The monster in motion as well… I’ll be sure to get a snap of him getting side ways when I have the opportunity, but I’ll leave that for next time.
The guys who fetched us throwin some shakas. I swear, all of us had to do a double take. How did I miss these guys?!
nd the Boso boys who were in attendance that day. I think there were a couple more, but they weren’t here at the time.
If you live in the Los Angeles area, be sure to drop by the shop and say what’s up… Or even if you’re just visiting. Locals are always welcome! Check them out here for good deals or just good times.
Check out the build thread here.
Also, big ups to Garage JS4KIX for taking care of the SpeedHawaii crew. Good guys doing good things. Check them out as well if you need good deals in Hawaii or just want to chill. If you haven’t already been to their shop, you definitely need to check if out on Democrat street next time yourself the area!
Shoots for Los Angeles!
